It was a good weekend for eight of our clubs, who progressed through to the First Qualifying Round of The Emirates F.A Cup Preliminary Round, with another involved in a midweek replay.

Four of our clubs beat opponents from the Evo-Stik League Division One, the first of those being AFC Liverpool who staged an amazing comeback on Friday night, coming from 2-0 down ten minutes into the second half to beat Radcliffe Borough 3-2, with Ryan Cox grabbing his second goal of the game in the 90th minute to clinch victory.

AFC Blackpool are in the First Qualifying Round for only the third time in their history, and the first time since 2004/05, with an own goal earning them a 1-0 win over Ossett Town, and an own goal proved to be decisive for Abbey Hey, who beat last season’s high profile giant killers Warrington Town 3-2 at the Abbey Stadium.

Goals from Sam Hind and Ashford Blake put Abbey Hey in the driving seat, with the own goal arriving just on the hour mark.

Goals from Jake Chadwick and Jonathan Crane in the opening eight minutes put Alsager Town on the way to a 2-1 win over Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

There was one all-NWCFL clash at the Angel Telecom Stadium, where Padiham gained revenge for a midweek league defeat at the same venue with a 2-0 over Silsden, Sean Cookson and Kieron Pickup penalty on target for the Storks.

The most convincing cup tie winners of the day were Runcorn Linnets who recorded a 6-0 win over Pontefract Collieries, with Freddie Potter grabbing a hat trick inside the opening 33 minutes.

Colne were 2-1 down after half an hour at Tadcaster Albion, but eventually ran out 5-2 winners, to continue their impressive early season goalscoring form. Last season’s leading scorer Danny Boyle grabbed a double for the Reds.

Congleton Town were two goals down after half an hour of their game at home to Handsworth Parramore, but after Rick Bailey scored on the stroke of half time, two second half goals from Scott McGowan proved decisive for the Bears.

Atherton Collieries live to fight another day after a 1-1 draw at Brighouse Town, thanks to a second half equaliser from Ben Hardcastle, but five of our clubs saw their interest in the competition come to an end.

1874 Northwich had hopes of progressing at home to Maltby Main, but only had a late Michael Brandon goal to show for their efforts in a 2-1 defeat, while Runcorn Town lost 3-2 at the Pavilions in the Cheshire derby against Northwich Victoria .

The trip to Ossett Albion proved unrewarding for Maine Road, losing 3-0, Hanley Town fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat in the West Midlands to Tividale, and Holker Old Boys lost 2-0 at home to Dunston UTS.

In the Premier Division, Barnoldswick Town moved five points clear at the top of the table thanks to a 3-0 win over Squires Gate, in which Jack Tinning scored twice in the opening 17 minutes.

Cammell Laird 1907 emerged with bragging rights from the Merseyside derby thanks to a 3-1 win over Bootle, although it took a penalty from Paul Foy ten minutes from time and a last minute strike from John Lawless to seal victory.

AFC Darwen and West Didsbury & Chorlton shared four goals in a 2-2 draw at the WEC Anchor Ground, while the game between Nelson and Ashton Athletic ended goalless.

There’s a four way tie at the top of the First Division, with Barnton leading the way on goal difference after a 4-1 home win over Stockport Town.

Ashton Town scored four first half goals, but then survived a second half come back from Eccleshall to eventually win 4-3, and Irlam also scored four as they kept up their good start, Jordan Icely scoring twice in the 4-1 win over Widnes.

The quartet at the top is completed by Litherland REMYCA, with Colin McDonald scoring his fourth goal of the week in the 2-1 home win over Cheadle Town.

St Helens Town led 2-0 at half time at home to Rochdale Town, but within 15 minutes of the second half two goals from Liam Bennion and one from Jonny Thompson gave the visitors a lead they held to the final whistle.

Last season’s Division One player of the year James Curley scored twice in Chadderton’s 5-1 winover Daisy Hill, and Bacup Borough finally recorded their first win of the season, beating Northwich Manchester Villa 4-2 at the Brian Boys West View Stadium

Whitchurch Alport’s 2-2 draw at home to Atherton LR was their third draw in five games, with Luke Woollam taking his goals tally for the season to five with both goals for Alport.
