This Sunday sees the latest fund raising event at Nelson to raise money to build the Joe Fagan Stand.

Last year, officials and supporters at Nelson decided that they wanted to celebrate the life and memory of former Liverpool manager Joe Fagan, who took his first steps in management at Nelson, managing the Admirals between 1951 and 1953.

The decision was taken to build a new stand at the club house end of Victoria Park and rename it the Joe Fagan Stand.

Since then, the club has undertaking a number of fund raising events, including a sponsored walk in December which involved 12 supporters from Nelson and Liverpool FC undertaking a 63 mile sponsored walk that started at Anfield at 7 pm on a Friday evening and ended at Nelson at 3 pm on Saturday.

The latest event is a challenge football match at Little Wembley this Sunday, between the Vintage Clarets XI, managed by England star Rachel Brown-Finnis,  and an Official England Supporters Team.  The game kicks off at 4 pm.

Nelson Chief Executive Adam Keizer said: “It promises to be a fantastic event, and all the funds raised will go towards building the stand this year.  So far, we’ve raised just over £3000 and will be releasing plans for the new stand very soon.

“It’s an extremely exciting project that will allow us to kick start major redevelopment plans for Little Wembley, as well as a chance to honour and celebrate Joe Fagan.

“Moving the club forward while celebrating our history is my approach, and the stand is the key project for the football club in 2015”.

Admission for Sunday’s game is £5 for adults, and £3 for under 16s/concessions.
