FA Vase Semi-Final 2nd Leg - Glossop NE v AFC St Austell

Excitement is building in Glossop ahead of the club’s eagerly awaited FA Vase semi-final second leg tie against AFC St Austell at Surrey Street on Saturday.

The Hillmen took a firm grip on the tie with a 2-0 win down in Cornwall on Saturday, with an early goal from Lee Blackshaw giving Glossop a great start, and a second goal from Ben Richardson in stoppage time wrapping up a fine afternoon’s work.

It was generally recognised that the visitors were more than good value for the win, and that the tie could have been out of sight for St Austell had Glossop taken all the chances they created.

None the less, a 2-0 win with a home leg to come is a decent position for any side to be in, and interest in the tie has been huge, with tickets selling out within 48 hours of going on sale.

With a crowd limit of around 1300 set by High Peak Council, the attendance is set to be higher than the quarter final, when 1010 watched the replay against Shaw Lane Aquaforce, and once again additional catering and portable toilet facilities have been drafted in, and will be in place at the top end of the ground.

There will be huge anticipation among the home support that a good afternoon awaits them, but Glossop North End Press Officer Jonathan Haggart says amidst the excitement, there is absolutely no chance of over confidence in the home camp as the game approaches.

"The preparations have kept the board incredibly busy this week. We got back from Cornwall at around 7 on Sunday, and I doubt the Chairman Dave Atkinson has been off the phone since, while the rest of the club's volunteers have also been preparing for the huge influx of visitors.

"The game in Blackpool in midweek will have been a nice football break for them, as they deal with getting the arrangements finalised.

"It has been a real team effort, and of course that is what is required on the pitch.  We could have had a few more goals last Saturday and been much more comfortable, but we'd have definitely taken 2-0 before the game.

"Not scoring as many as we should will have given hope to St Austell, though, and the first goal on Saturday will be crucial. They are still a bit of an unknown quantity because they didn't play well on Saturday, so we will have to address the game in the same manner we did last week. They'll latch on to any complacency".

If you haven't got a ticket for the game, and want to follow the action, there will live coverage from High Peak Radio, who broadcast on 106.4 and 103.3 FM in the High Peak area, and online at www.highpeakradio.co.uk.
