A total of 33 NWCFL clubs were in action in four different competitions over the weekend, with plenty of goals and talking points emerging from the 20 games.

In the FA Carlsberg Vase 2nd Round, Glossop North End and St Helens Town progressed to the next round at the expense of clubs from the Northern League Division Two.

It took Glossop North End until the 61st minute to break the resistance offered by Ryhope CW, but once Kieran Lugsden opened the scoring, further goals from Tom Bailey and Eddie Moran secured a 3-0 win.

There was no shortage of drama in the game between Alnwick Town and St Helens Town, with Saints eventually winning 5-4 after extra time.  Two goals from Chad Whyte and one from Andrew Gillespie gave then a 3-2 half time lead, and Alnwick equalised midway through the second half only for Kristian Bell to restore Saints' lead.

With five minutes left Alnwick equalised again to take the game into extra time, but Gareth Grant struck the winner for Saints seven minutes before the end.
Runcorn Town held out until the 75th minute at Shildon, eventually going down 2-0, and Congleton Town fell to a 1-0 defeat after conceding a goal on the half hour mark at home to Whitley Bay.

Atherton Collieries suffered the unusual experience of losing a game over the course of 90 minutes, losing 2-1 at home to Seaham Red Star.  The visitors established a two goal lead midway through the second half, and although Jordan Cover reduced the deficit, the visitors survived a late Colls rally to secure the win.

1874 Northwich earned their place in the next round after a terrific 4-1 win at Bishop Auckland.  Stuart Wellstead and Matthew Woolley put 1874 two up before the half hour, but before half time the home side pulled a goal back and 1874's Adam Bayley was sent off on his debut.  However, two second half goals from Matthew Beadle sealed victory for the Greens.

The tie between AFC Darwen  and Chadderton was postponed, and rescheduled for Wednesday evening.

In the Premier Division, Runcorn Linnets took advantage of their nearest rivals being inactive to increase their lead at the top of the table, winning 3-1 at AFC Blackpool. Three goals in the space of 14 second half minutes from Matthew Atherton, Martin Crowder and Michael White from the spot moved Linnets nine points ahead, while the defeat keeps AFC Blackpool in the relegation zone.

AFC Liverpool failed to keep the momentum going from their midweek win over Everton in the Liverpool Senior Cup, with goals from Danny Boyle and Chris Anderson earning a 2-0 win for Colne at the XLCR Stadium.

A couple of miles down the road at Nelson, Nicholas Evangelinos and Scott Mason put West Didsbury & Chorlton 2-0 up after 23 minutes, but two goals in two minutes from Peter Wright and Gareth Peet ensured a share of eth points from a 2-2 draw.

Two goals from Alex Murphy helped Squires Gate to a 3-2 win at Maine Road, and Barnoldswick Town earned a welcome 2-1 home win over Alsager Town, thanks to two goals from John Beckwith.

That win took Barlick out of the relegation zone, swapping places with Stockport Sports, who lost 3-1 at home to Silsden after being a goal up at half time.

In the game of the day in Division One, Cammell Laird 1907 leapfrogged over Atherton Collieries ino top spot with a 2-1 win at Daisy Hill.  Goals from Joe Gibiluru and Paul Foy put Lairds two up just after the half hour, although a Jordan Hussey penalty narrowed the margin of victory.

Daisy stay in third place in the table, and Atherton LR moved into fourth place, with second gaols from Mathew Davies, Ashley Duckworth and Benjamin Hyde seeing them through to a 3-1 win at  Oldham Boro.

Barnton gave new manager Allan Glover a good start in his first game in charge, moving into fifth place after winning 4-1 at home to Rochdale Town.  Colin Quirk, Anthony Wynne and Ahmed Ally twice were on target for the Villagers.

Cheadle Town were the biggest winners of the day, with seven different players getting on the scoresheet in an 8-1 victory over Wigan Robin Park.

Litherland REMYCA notched up their first ever away league win in the NWCFL , Louis Austin, Josh Wright with a penalty and Craig Blackwell on target in a 3-1 win at Holker Old Boys.

Widnes have now scored ten goals in two successive away games with their 4-1 win at Ashton Town, and Northwich Flixton Villa moved into tenth place with a 3-0 win over Eccleshall.

Finally, in the Staffordshire FA Vase Second Round, an extra time winner from Nathan Chinn-Shaw two minutes from time earned Hanley Town a 4-3 win at Uttoxeter Town.
