Glossop North End clinched the Reserve Division title last night thanks to a 5-0 win at Silsden.

The win edged the Hillmen to the title by just one point, ahead of their High Peak neighbours New Mills, who finish as runners-up.

Glossop reserve team manager Calum Sykes reflected afterwards on his team's achievement.

“It’s been a very enjoyable league season for Glossop North End Reserves this year and we are very proud to be the team to win the last NWCFL Reserve League", he said.

"We've had some very difficult and challenging games in the league and we have enjoyed each and every one of them. We have improved immensely since last year, still having the majority of the same players.

"Our style of play has not altered, but our ability to take our chances and to defend as a collective has pushed us to be a title winning side. We will enjoy the moment”.

The club's Football Secretary Stewart Taylor added: "The club are delighted that our Reserve team have been crowned champions of the NWCFL Reserve Division for season 2013/14.

"It's rather poignant in some ways as this is the last season, for the foreseeable future at least, for the NWCFL Reserves Division, a league which Glossop North End have supported over many years and have found success in previous seasons.

"It has been a difficult season for all in the Reserves Division this term with a new competition – the Reserves Division Trophy - to take on board and the very wet winter leading to a large number of postponements. Indeed, of the 16 match League season, GNE Reserves played their 15th match in early March and had to wait until the end of April to complete the League programme.

"We pay tribute to Calum and his players in keeping their focus over this long period of time and for the attractive football the side has played. Well done to all involved.”
